About this event
Kin-Land guides attention to the shared act of land stewarding throughout the state of Kentucky. All actively working with the land, featured artists Anna Campomanes, Mar Mendoza-Cárdenas, Tiffany Pyette, and Kat Smith extend a look into the wide breadth of care that they find themselves a part of. These tending tactics offer material, and spiritual pathways for kinship with a landscape that has far too often been severed through settler colonial capitalism. This collection of works counter extractive industries that have plagued these hills by way of coal mining, prisons, and an ever expanding horse industry. What can grow here in their stead? Revealed through fiber arts, sculpture, and print based media, a celebration for a different path forward is offered and paired with localized solutions. In the face of spiraling climate catastrophe, we refuse the surrender to despair, and actively step into creative action. Mechanisms for repair felt through sight, sound, and touch offer an invitation towards relational devotion to the soils that hold us all.
The opening of this gallery show will include performances by Lawrence White and Wylde Parsley , with a native plant sale by local plant co-op Taproot Nursery.
Throughout the two months this show will be up we will have a whole smattering of programming that will dive deeper into these themes. You can visit artfarm.coop to learn more about additional events.
